Hardcover (Rand Mcnally And Company, Aug. 16, 1961)
The story of the "Mayflower" and the pilgrims establishing a colony at Plymouth Rock is now the material of legends. All school children learn the tale, yet some of what they hear is exaggerated, modified and just plain false. This book contains a lengthy tale of the Pilgrims, from their attempt to worship in a manner contradicted by the edicts of the English king to the end of their first year in North America. While some poetic license is taken with the story, in general it is historically accurate. The pilgrims were genuinely fleeing from religious persecution and they struggled to create a new life in North America. Many of them died in the first year, yet they persevered and ultimately thrived. It is unfortunate that the good relations between the Native Americans and the English transplants described so well in this book did not last. Cooperation between them kept the English alive in their first year, yet the payback was ultimately brutal rather than kindly. It is good that the reader of this book will learn that peaceful co-existence was the initial condition.

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Jan. 20, 2018)
Excerpt from One of the Pilgrims: A Bank StoryTruxton, a junior clerk of the Pilgrim Savings Bank, one quiet morning in February. It was what was known at the Pilgrim as the season of heavenly rest, when, if ever, social amenities are in order. Money was not to go on interest, neither was interest to fall due, for two months to come, and an air of elegant leisure per vaded the establishment, rather accentuated than otherwise by the occasional straggler driven by monetary surplus or deficit to make unseasonable application at the long counter.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
